Robert Ballantyne, or “Rob”, to give him his Monday to Friday name, is an Associate Partner with an impressive UK-wide background in business journalism and financial communications. At his stage in life Rob is perfectly happy to accept the epithet, “a true veteran ex-journalist and PR”.
In the years leading up to the Carlsberg/Heineken takeover, Rob was head of corporate communications at the international brewer, Scottish & Newcastle. Prior to that he was head of the group communications team at Stagecoach, the bus and rail operator, when the group was expanding internationally.
More recently, Rob was Deputy Chairman of the respected London financial PR business Cardew Group, with clients such as Clydesdale Bank, Miller Group and C&C Group. He has extensive experience in change management and mergers and acquisitions, both in-house and in agency roles.
Some years ago Rob started his working life at The Scotsman Publications; he has been known to reminisce on the glory days of hot metal typesetting and the Wapping dispute that ended it. Rob worked for 15 years under six editors at The Times in London, latterly as Business and City Editor, before returning to Edinburgh in the mid-1990s to become Business Editor and Assistant Editor at The Scotsman.
His final position in journalism was Business Editor at The Sunday Times in Scotland, before moving into corporate communications “to get out from behind a screen and make a few bob…”. He may yet.
