Malcolm Robertson is one of our two founding partners. Despite objecting to the term on the basis that he’s “not anywhere near 50 yet”, Malcolm is nevertheless a veteran of the UK communications industry.
He served his apprenticeship more than 20 years ago at Beattie Media, which, at the time, was Scotland’s largest PR agency. From there he moved to BAA, the airports operator, where he spent 12 lively years on the frontline of some of the most high-profile political, regulatory and operational crises of that era, advising the Board and shareholders.
In 2011, Malcolm went it alone and spent two years managing a small strategic advisory business, representing clients in the banking and transport sectors, as well as advising a number of international private equity and infrastructure funds. At Charlotte Street Partners, he advises clients on long-term reputation in challenging and changing circumstances.
Malcolm is a member of Unicef’s Scottish advisory board and Chairs the Board of Trustees for The Hutchison Vale Foundation, a new charity established to promote youth sport and community in Edinburgh. He is also a volunteer coach at Hutchie Vale, taking responsibility for supporting the club’s youngest age groups.
Over the last 25 years Andrew has become a well-known figure in business and public life as an economist, former politician and communications strategist. Andrew studied at the Universities of St Andrews and Strathclyde and began his career in the civil service in the Government Economic Service. He then worked as researcher and economist for the SNP and as a business economist at Royal Bank of Scotland.
He was elected as a member of the first Scottish Parliament in 1999. There, he served as Shadow Minister for, variously: Finance, Economy, Transport and Lifelong Learning. In 2003, Andrew re-joined RBS working in a number of roles including as Deputy Chief Economist. During the banking crisis, he served as Head of Group Communications and was intimately involved in the bank’s high-profile engagement with the City, UK Government and media during those tumultuous times. In 2012, prior to the launch of Charlotte Street Partners, Andrew joined global marcomms giant WPP Group in a client strategy role working with agencies and group across the full range of services including media and advertising.
Andrew is a Board Member and Trustee of the John Smith Centre for Public Service, the Edinburgh International Culture Summit and of Sistema Scotland which is a social transformation charity. In September 2016 he was appointed to chair the Sustainable Growth Commission, which reported to the First Minister in May 2018. He was also a member of the Independent Commission on Referendums based at UCL's Constitution Unit, reporting in July 2018.He writes and broadcasts regularly including as a weekly columnist with The National daily newspaper.
Sir Angus Grossart
Sir Angus is chairman of Noble Grossart Limited, the Scottish merchant bank which he jointly founded in 1969. He has acted as financial or strategic adviser to many public and private companies and other bodies.
Sir Angus has served as a director of nearly 20 listed public companies in the UK, the USA and Canada. He is a former vice chairman of the Royal Bank of Scotland Group and a former chairman of the Scottish Investment Trust PLC and of Edinburgh Fund Managers PLC. He served as chairman of the National Museums of Scotland, the National Galleries of Scotland, the Heritage Lottery Fund in Scotland, and as deputy chairman of National Heritage Memorial Fund. He is currently chairman of Lyon & Turnbull, Scotland International, The Burrell Renaissance and Edinburgh International Culture Summit.
A Queen’s Counsel, Sir Angus graduated from the University of Glasgow with degrees in both Law and the Arts before becoming an advocate and serving at the bar until 1969. He is a Deputy Lieutenant of the City of Edinburgh, was awarded a CBE in 1990 and then knighted 1997.
In 2014, Sir Angus – a one-time scratch golfer – told The Sunday Times that he practises by hitting balls over the 16th century castle he has spent 25 years restoring in Fife. “It costs you in windows if you don’t get it right”, he said.
Non Executive Director
MT Rainey is a Non Executive Director of Hays PLC. She is also Vice Chair of Creative Skillset, the Sector Skills Council for the Creative Industries, Co-Chair of the Development Board for WW1 Centenary arts commissioning body, 14-18 Now, and a board member of Glasgow School of Art Development Trust and Clear Channel. She was recently a Non Executive Director of AIM-listed Pinewood Group until the board took it private at the end of 2015. In the past, she has served as a Deputy Chair of Channel 4 and as a Non Executive Director with WH Smith and with STV.
Her executive career was spent in advertising, both in the UK and the US. MT was founder and CEO of top UK advertising agency Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe/Y&R which is now part of the WPP group and before that spent eight years in the U.S. as Planning Director at Chiat/Day working with Apple and other first generation Silicon Valley companies. She was Chair of digital strategy agency Think Ltd from 2008 to 2015 and remains a shareholder. In 2008 she launched social enterprise horsesmouth.co.uk which is a safe online network for informal mentoring, now with over 100,000 members.
She is a former President of The Thirty Club of London and is a former Chair of the Marketing Group of Great Britain. She was recently honoured with an OBE for services to Advertising in the 2015 Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
Roland Rudd is Founder and Chairman of Finsbury and Chairman of Open Britain. Before founding Finsbury, Roland was a financial journalist at the Financial Times, the Sunday Correspondent and the Times. He is a former policy coordinator for Lord Owen. He studied Philosophy and Theology at Oxford University, where he served as President of the Oxford Union. He is now a visiting Fellow at the Oxford University Centre for Corporate Reputation and an Honorary Fellow at Regent’s Park College, University of Oxford. He is Trustee of the Royal Opera House, the Garden Bridge Trust and Speakers for Schools. He is Chairman of the Governors of Millfield school and Ambassador to the Made by Dyslexia campaign.
Non Executive Director
James joined Finsbury as a partner in 1996 and is currently Managing Partner of its London office. He has more than 25 years’ experience in financial communications and has handled a number of contested transactions, flotations and other high profile communications issues. He advises a range of major UK and international clients. James started his career as an investment banker at Dean Witter, where he qualified as a registered securities representative in both the UK and US. He has a degree in economics and politics.

Harriet is always thinking about how we can deliver a better client service. She is passionate about supporting businesses to identify and work from their purpose and face the challenges of our times head on.
As a TV news producer, reporter and presenter Harriet delivered programming and interviews with business leaders and politicians from Davos, G8 summits and across Europe for major international networks including CNN, CNBC, StarAsia and PBS.
Since joining the company Harriet has been lucky enough to work with great leadership teams at Wood, FanDuel, UNICEF and many more. Her favourite place to be is right in the middle of the action getting things done as creatively, quickly and efficiently as possible.
She is a trustee for Street Soccer Scotland, Brink Literacy Project, Hutchie Vale Foundation and the Glencruitten Cathedral of Trees SCIO and a certified Iyengar yoga teacher.
Laura is managing partner for Charlotte Street Partners with responsibility for recruiting talent, looking after our team and nurturing exceptional client delivery.
Laura’s career in communications began in the financial services industry where she worked in various public affairs roles at Scottish Widows and Lloyds Banking Group. During her time at Lloyds, she managed the bank’s public affairs activity in Scotland and worked on Scottish Widows’ thought leadership programme and the Bank of Scotland’s research campaigns. In 2013, Laura joined the TSB communications team to support the launch and IPO of the new bank, leading on political engagement at Westminster and Holyrood.
Laura joined Charlotte Street Partners in January 2015. Her client facing work includes leading our client teams from UK and global businesses across financial, transport, retail and food and drink sectors.
As a financial communications expert, Sarah has used her extensive experience of complex stakeholder management and her first class financial, analytical and communication skills to work in an exciting variety of investor relations roles.
She’s worked with clients as diverse as family offices, venture capital firms, rapidly growing FMCGs, specialist finance providers, charities and sporting foundations where she has been instrumental in sourcing significant funding to support ambitious growth plans, creating and implementing effective investor relations strategies, organising successful road-shows and investor events and producing professional investor relations communications.
David joined Charlotte Street Partners in 2015 after seven years spent in the financial services sector in various roles with RBS.
He joined RBS in 2007, on the eve of the banking sector’s most turbulent period, and was part of the communications team tasked with rebuilding the bank's reputation following government bail-outs in 2008 and 2009.
In late 2013, David had become head of communications for the spin-off challenger bank, Williams & Glyn, taking responsibility for the fledgling bank's corporate affairs strategy before the proposed IPO and sale processes were ultimately cancelled.
During his time at RBS, David gained significant experience, most notably in media relations and financial reporting, but also in crisis management, sponsorship, and events. He handled external communications for several M&A deals and corporate restructurings, and led media relations for the bank's non-core division, which disposed of more than £200bn in assets in five years.
David began his career at Beattie Media in 2000, after graduating from the University of Stirling with a degree in psychology and film and media studies. He spent seven years at Beattie, working with major corporate and consumer brands, including a two-year secondment to Scottish Enterprise's press office.
Kevin is one of our most experienced strategy and communications advisers and is widely regarded as one of the most respected strategic communications experts of his generation.
Kevin was instrumental in steering the SNP successfully from a small opposition party to one of the greatest political success stories of modern times.
Between 2004 and 2006, Kevin earned some valuable private sector experience with Centrica’s Scottish Gas business, before re-joining the SNP’s political machine. Following the 2007 Scottish elections, he was appointed senior special adviser to the first SNP First Minister of Scotland, Alex Salmond. Kevin went on to become director of strategic communications for the SNP, playing a central role in the cross-party Yes campaign. He is currently a columnist for The Sunday Times in Scotland.
Iain joined Charlotte Street Partners from leading global strategic communications consultancy Finsbury. He spent seven years in the firm’s Middle East & Africa offices, advising government and private sector clients across the region.
He worked on behalf of government ministries, sovereign wealth funds, local and regional investment banks, private equity firms and other companies in sectors such as aerospace, financial technology, insurance and healthcare.
Amongst his most high profile activity was handling communications for various government entities in Saudi Arabia, as the Kingdom rolled out a number of highly significant social and economic reforms.
Prior to leaving Scotland in 2011, Iain spent six years in the press office at Holyrood for the Scottish Conservatives. Iain is a graduate of both St Andrews and Edinburgh universities.
Tom joined Charlotte Street Partners in May 2018. He was previously an Associate Director in the Corporate Reputation team at MHP Communications in London. He has nine years’ experience advising clients on media strategy, crisis response and stakeholder engagement. He specialises in developing and delivering successful integrated corporate affairs campaigns.
He has recently provided senior counsel to international and domestic clients including oil majors, a big-six energy company, UK government departments and a range of leading professional services firms.
Putting her journalist degree to good use, Sabina began her career in publishing, working across legal services publications. After a brief stint in internal communications for a leading international law firm, she went on to work in public relations on award-winning consumer and corporate clients. In 2010 Sabina was named by PR Week as one of their ’29 under 29’ future leaders of the industry.
Sabina joined Charlotte Street Partners in 2017 from housing and homelessness charity Shelter Scotland where she worked as a senior communications officer.
Sabina has recently translated a children’s book from Bosnian to English; the book aims to help child survivors of war deal with their trauma.
Scott stays true to his keen sense of curiosity, cultivated during his time as a PhD candidate at the universities of St Andrews and Edinburgh.
Having joined us as a researcher, we were quick to hire him for his professionalism, sector know-how and his deep sense of empathy in everything he does. He’s most at home when supporting clients in corporate affairs narrative and strategy development, alongside providing forward-thinking macro-economic and political intelligence.
Scott continues to play an integral part in helping Charlotte Street Partners to develop our culture and purpose, most recently transforming the Charlotte Street Partners Academy and Accelerator from concept into reality.
Adam Shaw joined Charlotte Street Partners as a Senior Associate in September 2016 and works across a range of clients, specialising in the financial services industry.
After graduating from the University of Aberdeen in 2013 with a degree in International Relations and Spanish, Adam moved to London and spent three years with a City-based communications consultancy where he advised a range of clients on their media profile.
However, a return to Scotland was always on the cards and his media relations experience combined with a strong political interest made him a great fit for the Charlotte Street Partners team.
Laura has the Herculean task of managing the company calendars and client meeting schedules. With the patience of a saint and the persistence and precision of a watchmaker, she crafts the ever expanding daily diaries of Andrew and Malcolm, and the team for the maximum benefit of all of our clients.
A career spent supporting a succession of CEO's & Chairmen, primarily in banking, throughout turbulent times means Laura is as unflappable as they come.
She is the first point of contact for clients and potential clients of the business and a key member of the events and management team.
Executive Assistant and Office Manager
Katie works broadly across our financial, healthcare, technology, and energy sectors. At Charlotte Street Partners her main focuses are public affairs and financial communications with a strong research component. Katie’s research not only adds valuable intelligence to the team, but also gives her the scope to supplement our work with creative solutions and analyse problems from different perspectives.
Katie loves both reading and writing and covers a wide range of different journalists and themes as part of her monitoring and intelligence gathering role. A weekly contributor to our daily briefing series, Katie is engaged in the key issues across her sectors and endeavours to add her own twist on wide-ranging debates. Her recent client work includes TSB, Celgene, Cairn Energy and IP Group.
Javier joined Charlotte Street Partners as a researcher while he was finishing his MSc in International Relations at the University of Edinburgh. He previously worked in his native Spain as an account executive with Ogilvy, advising key players in the tech, pharmaceutical, and food and drink industries on their communication strategies.
A former ballet student in Monaco and New York, Javier is most passionate about international affairs, gender equality, and world history. He brings a global and interdisciplinary background as well as an appreciation for research, social policy, and branding.
India joined Charlotte Street Partners in 2019. She graduated with Bachelor of Arts Degree in Visual Communications and has a flair for all things design and creative. She is responsible for creating and editing our artwork and graphic media. This includes vector art, animation, motion graphics, video editing, photo manipulation, typography and web design. You name it she can create it.
Her first role as a professional designer involved bringing interior and exterior designers imaginations to virtual life through images and film. She will see any design through from sketches and doodles to 3D & 2D digital media.
Juan grew up in Caracas, Venezuela, and moved to Scotland to study Economics and Politics at the University of Stirling. While studying there, he developed his interest in the international political economy and financial markets as a founding member and secretary of the Student Managed Investment Fund (SMIF).
Juan completed an internship at ESM Investments in the summer of 2019, and after impressing everyone at Charlotte Street Partners during a similar internship in 2018 he was invited to join the team, which he did upon graduating from Stirling with a first-class honours degree.
Aidan joined Charlotte Street Partners as an Associate following a two-and-a-half-year stint monitoring political developments in the Scottish Parliament and Westminster on behalf of clients at Newsdirect. That role saw him combine the deep knowledge of public policy he had gained during a Master’s degree at the University of Glasgow with the skills required to communicate key information on a range of politics and business issues to a diverse portfolio of clients. He now puts this experience to use in producing detailed briefings on policy developments and advising clients on parliamentary activity and procedure.
